ISN'T IT TIME YOU ADOPTED A PET?   Adopt a pet.  Stop by the Emporia Animal Shelter 1216 Hatcher  Monday through Saturday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.  And Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. - 7 p.m.  Applications are available at the Shelter. 


The Emporia Public Library is an extremely busy service to the Emporia Community. Between paid staff and volunteers like the Friends of the Library, a day doesn't pass in which something is not going on which affects some segment of the community.  All this on top of the normal services library offers with books, periodicals and research.emporialibrary.org

Every day is Veteran's Day at South East Kansas Works.  Veterans are eligible for help in finding work, career counseling and other services.

The Visitor's Center is open daily from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The Lower Fox Creek one-room school house will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nature and Hiking Trails are open 24 hours a day.

Volunteers work at Pioneer Bluffs Historic Farm on the first Saturday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to Noon. Lunch is provided. Work is done to preserve the site.

Pioneer Bluffs is open to the public in spring, summer and fall from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Fri, Sat, Sun and Monday. During winter months the site is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays only. Pioneer Bluffs is always open by appointment.

Rooted deeply in the pioneering spirit of the past, today's pioneers are preserving history, respecting the land, and engaging community at Pioneer Bluffs.

Pioneer Bluffs is a nonprofit 501c3 organization that runs on "volunteer power" and donations. Join us on the first Saturday of every month at 8:30 a.m. for coffee, chat, and restoration. Pioneer Bluffs is also available for group tours and private events. Area school and youth groups can schedule A Day on the Farm


The Summer Emporia Farmer's Market is held every Saturday morning from May through October. Wednesday evenings from 5p. 8 p.m. are added in June. It is located on 7th Avenue between Commercial & Merchant Streets.  For information call 620-343-6555.


Get good used clothing at affordable prices at the First Christian Church “Clothes Closet” 202 E. 12th. Hours are 3 - 6 pm every Friday and every Saturday morning from 9 am – Noon. For more information call 342-1582. 



Located at 315 East Logan Avenue, the Howe House is on the register of historic places.  Built in 1867 by a Welsh immigrant stonemason is open to group tours by appointment. Just call 620-340-6310.

Take a stroll along the new Prairie Patch walking nature trail, which connects the Howe House to the Emporia Zoo



The Older Kansans Employment Program invites seniors to have coffee and meet other job-seekers, as well as hear motivational speakers every Tuesday at the Emporia Senior Center on East 12th at 9:30 AM.



Abundant Harvest serves meals Mon-Thurs. at the Abundant Harvest Food Kitchen, 1028 Whittier, evenings at 5:30. There is no charge and all are welcome. If you would like to volunteer, call Jennifer at 342-7439.



Friendship Meals Volunteers Needed

Do you have an hour or so to spare ? Emporia Friendship Meals needs volunteer drivers to deliver noon meals to homebound seniors.

Older Kansan’s Employment Program invites Seniors (55yrs. old & older) to attend Job Club.

10 am. Every  1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, Emporia Friendship Center, 221 W. Logan Ave. Emporia, KS.

Career Developer assists seniors finding & obtaining work. Full time , part time, temporary or permanent. Individual appointments can be made by calling:

HR PAGE: Noon on the 2nd Wednesday of the month in the Greek Room of the ESU Memorial Union (HR PAGE holds a social from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. on the 3rd Friday of each month.  Locations vary monthly).
